I know it’s not really a choice for people physically addicted to using their phones and social media as they got you with that dopamine feedback loop shit- they broke your brains and made you addicts- made you junkies-
Seeing that I never got addicted to phones or social media I just can’t relate- I know its like telling a crack addict with a packed pipe in hand “just don’t smoke it”
But it also just seems so simple and retarded- its like shiiiit if you are who you want to be and are where you want to be in life and getting all the shit done you want to get done then no problem keep playing with the digital binky all day and night-
BUT if you’re not where you want to be etc etc then shiiiiit you need to change something- maybe put the crack pipe down?
People still smoke crack mostly in shame and in secret except in San Francisco- but since everyone is hooked on these phones/apps there’s no shame in it you can openly use everywhere and everyone does- to me you all seem like junkies- you all seem desperate and pathetic 🤷♂️
How much of your potential has been lost to these toys you play with all day and night?
Just shizo-ing for a second here- I read this book a year or two ago after seeing the dude on a podcast- check it for a potential glimpse into the future of these devices/social apps etc-
It’s already been publicly stated by founders of major social apps that they will do anything for “engagement” and one of the best things for engagement is to make you upset and angry-
So if you read that book- imagine in the future there will be an A.I. “Demon” instance personalized for everyone and unleashed on them to torture and antagonize them to “maximize engagement” this could be done through the devices you hold in your hand or even worse the devices you’ll be encouraged to be implanted inside of you-
Schizo-ing over- but the above doesn’t seem weirder/more out there to me to the world we are in now where everyone around me holds this metal square out on front of them everywhere they go all the time-
I’m on a trip in Japan with my wife rn btw so I’m seeing a lot of phoneMaXXing- I remember being in Japan in 2004 and getting on a train and everyone was looking at a phone as I think this was the first place I saw that-
Maybe I’m just old man yelling at a cloud-ing? I often think about past technologies that “took people away” from physical reality and physical human interactions-
The radio, the TV, the internet, the walkman- all these things attacked and broke down human social order and interactions- alienated people etc
I mean the modern Murican in the big city addicted to their phone + apps is on a bunch of meds to make them feel normal but its like breh just get away from all the technology to feel normal put you’re fucking phone away and talk to other people without phones?
I know socially you are all like little babies that cannot stand two seconds of silence and it makes you feel “awkward” so you grab you’re phone and hide inside of it-
I saw a “trend” of “rawdogging” flights by men and I think this is a good trend that should spread to the rest of life- put your phone away and “rawdogg” life-
Its like I enjoy using sauna’s and cold plunges and take pride in how long and how silent and still I can remain in those- it builds mental toughness and discipline as does meditation of course-
This just me rambling on “vacation” made this THUG ass song in the hotel room a few days into this vacation- its nothing amazing but I’m glad I made it- if I had a phone I imagine I would have been playing with it instead…
I recorded the vocals into my built-in laptop mic so they sounded like shit BUT I used Audimee to replace the voice like I’m doing for the musical so it spits out well engineered vocals back-
I just used a still image for the video BUT I could of logged into my work PC in Portugal as I have a Raspberry Pi using WakeOnLan + Parsec and made a music vid in Nightmare Puppeteer for it but had jetlag so went low energy breh-
Anyhow- fuck your phone- going to go check out a waterfall now-
(I drew the shitty drawings with Wigglypaint)
I must say I don't appreciate the angle "put down your phone to cure mental illness", because it's quite an oversimplification of a complex issue, and I think this angle downplays invisible disability. Rather than saying "The underlying issue is phone/social media addiction", I would go more radical and say, "The underlying issue is capitalism" ;)
But in general your post with the pic of the Japanese garden made me think of "Perfect Days". Maybe the best film I watched the entire year. It requires so little to be happy :)
Do you use guided meditations? Any you'd recommend?
