the Modern Magickian
Before I got into animation I was studying Magick... and after doing animation for some years I realize it IS magick... it's all the manipulation of ones will... Your will is to make your characters, your film... your world... REAL... none of it exists before you put pen to paper... your CONTRACT if you will... the contract with the daemons you wish to call forth which are your CHARACTERS... these different daemons all have specific purposes so use them accordingly... You have your ALTAR... your desk... your magickal tools... a computer...a stylus... so you commit to and perform the ceremony which is producing the animated film... the whispers that once bounced around your head are now standing and talking on a screen before you... it must be MAGICK!
If you think about what a SHAMAN is/was... one of the things they do is to go off into other non physical realms and communicate with or observe beings that reside in those places... Have you ever gone into a trance when working on your art? Have you ever been given a message or felt something that you could not put into words in this physical realm? That is what art is for... that is when you must be a shaman...
There are answers to questions many people have that are unavailable in this physical realm so you must venture to other places and bring those answers back to the people here... that is the job of the artist... and their not all literal answers/facts/etc... they must be translated through sound, colors, movement, music... I believe the true power is what we FEEL from films... not what we think.
As an artist you should NEVER erect any cultural, religious or political boundaries that might prevent you from finding the truth that you seek in your art... It's all fair game... speak of the "devil" , "demons" and "god" and you're sure to get a bunch of people spouting of inane rhetoric about what is "right" or "wrong"... "good" or "evil"... to the artist their all different shades of color we can use in our palette...
Just like over time people have become comfortable painting with the colors of SEX and VIOLENCE... but there are still MANY topics which are still considered "taboo" usually for political or religious reasons that can be used...
If the image of Baphomet scares you or the thought of "demons" creeps you out... you probably just need to get in better touch with YOUR INNER DARKNESS or learn about when/where/how the mythos came to be... when you're afraid of the dark it's hard to see in it... but once you lose that fear it simply becomes another set in which to stage drama's and forge characters...
That's why I like Screamerclauz's films so much... he deals with very dark subject matter and imagery but he's telling real stories in it... stories which can only be told in such a dark place.
If your interested in Magick check out the book "Magick: In theory and practice" ....and how could anyone be afraid of such a jolly chubby guy like this? ^_^
Aleister CrowleyAnd it's not Magick but I was also heavily influenced by the writings of Rudolf Steiner in my formative professional weirdo years.
