Two of the biggest differences between “M dot Strange” and “Imagination Rabbit” is that M dot Strange worked alone for the most part and didn’t really have a budget.
Imagination Rabbit works with others and… has a budget.
I never intended to mostly work alone through my career- Once you become a professional and want to work with other professionals… if you don’t have the budget to pay them… you can’t work with them. I respect peoples time so I want to pay them for it.
In my last audio recording I talked about some of the musicians doing soundtracks for our new film “M Doll” I’ll link to some of them here so you can check out their music. Its all different stuff and its all great…that’s why I’ve commissioned them I guess ^_^
The “original” soundtrack is being done by Endika who did the original soundtrack for Heart String Marionette (2012) Endika and I have remained friends over the years- one time we were hanging out and he said “we should do another movie together” and shortly after that I started on M doll.
The Classical Chiptune soundtrack is being done by a musician in Venezuela that goes by Eithereor X . Here is one of the tracks he’s doing for M doll. I found him when I was searching youtube for chiptune classical as I like it a lot ^_^
I don’t know what to call this other soundtrack yet- I should probably call it the “Yeltsin is Illuminati” soundtrack as that’s the name of the guys band who is doing it. His music is really cool, here’s one of my favorite songs of his. No, I don’t understand Russian as I’m a Murican that only speaks English and C# but I still really like it.
Speaking of Russia- if you speak the language you might to check this review of Heart String Marionette(2012) Also another Russian person contacted me and said they were inspired by Heart String Marionette and they sent me their animated series which I thought was great storytelling. You can see the first episode here.
This other soundtrack should be called the “Cementimental” soundtrack as that’s the main band name of the guy in the UK doing it. I’ve known Tim for years, we’re kindred professional weirdo’s/animator/musicans/etc ^_^ I have no idea what he’s going to do but here’s some of his stuff that I really like.
The fourth soundtrack will be done by me. I’ve made about 7 hours of unreleased instrumental music for a game project of mine and I’m going to arrange it for a soundtrack. You can hear some of it here on this gameplay video from my unreleased game.
The sound design/sound fx for the film is being done by a strange pal in Finland… I think… I’m not the best at “touching base” because of my usual solitary work haha. I hope he ends up doing it because what I’ve heard from him so far sounds great. Strange fact: He did the Finnish translation for my old film We are the Strange(2007) and he was the main tester for my game that makes animations Nightmare Puppeteer.
Ya see, I’m playing well with others now!
Here’s a few other things Imagination Rabbit has been producing or collaborating on or whatever maaaaaaaaan.
So I produced this album for this Brazilian musician named “Larissa Skrimsli” a few years back, did some music videos for her too. Over the past year Imagination Rabbit commissioned her to write her own sci fi/horror novel. The first 542 page draft was completed about a month ago and we’re going to do our best to help her get it out there. When producing her music album I was impressed with her lyrics, her way with words and knew she was a book nerd so I could just tell that she would make a good author.
One of my favorite people in the world is my dude “Spooktergeist” He’s an artist/animator that I’ve known online for years. I LOVED the first episode of his comedy animation “GHOST BOIS” so I made sure Imagination Rabbit threw some…commissioning his way to help him with GHOST BOIS 2 and it ended up being this hilarious thing right here. Here’s a bit of news I heard that’s pretty exciting if you’ve been following my work for some time… Actor/Voice actor Ricky Grove who has done main voices in a few of my works is now working with Spooktergeist by doing a voice for GHOST BOIS 3! I thought that was awesome- those guys are two of my favorite people and I’m fans of them both so I’m excited to see GHOST BOIS 3.
On a side note. My dude Mike from Wasteful Flavors sent me a bag of his shirts last week- I’m still wearing his older shirts- He sent them to me and I was like “AY lemme pay you for these!” and he was like “Dude, remember you did that music video for me, for free? We’re good.” (Mike’s also makes music) and I was like oh yeh I forgot I did that ^_^
Random notes:
At the quality of “M doll” we can make two animated feature films per year
I’m working on documenting and teaching my new style of filmmaking called IDGAF Filmmaking so I can help new original animated films get made out there
I didn’t animate EVEN ONE character shot in M doll- thats the magic of IDGAF Filmmaking- you need not be an animator/3d person to make high quality animated films with my new approach
I didn’t use Unity’s best quality rendering solution(HDRP) for M doll as I tested it and thought it was too much new tech stuff for my first feature made in Unity BUT I will use it in the next one.
I’m thinking of holding at least TWO physical screenings of “M doll”. One somewhere in the middle of the USA(Texas is open) and another in a European country or maybe the UK? I don’t know where I’ll be allowed to screen a film these days in real life as its super dangerous apparently. If you have any ideas of where to screen the film let me know in the comments. Imagination Rabbit will rent the venue and make it free to attend. I’d like to also play it in Russia and Japan… and a few other places haha. Maybe Australia- I know at least three people who would show up haha. I’m not good with going on vacations or travelling for no reason but it would sure be great to go to new places to show a new film.
I saw a few familiar names/email address for people that have signed up here- I was pleasantly surprised- thanks for sticking with me all this time peoples. If you were waiting for me to get back to doing what I do best….making animated films… well, I finally have.
Having different soundtracks feels akin to a music single with different mixes. An alternate way of appreciating the same song.
Ahh, so many links to cool new shit. This is excellent.
