That’s my spreadsheet again- the one I use to track the progress of this thing-
If I kept going I would probably finish the whole thing by the beginning of December but it’s going to have to wait till next year- I’m spending the next month in Japan- then two weeks back in Portugal- then three weeks in Iceland for Christmas and New Years(family stuff)-
So I’m guessing I’ll have it finished by early February 2025-
I mean it doesn’t really matter as the only deadlines are my own- I could be dragging ass on it BUT I can’t do that- I have to get things done- its just how I am.
Larissa- who is the musician helping with orchestration is still going- working through the songs- and I recently hired my friend One Card Pony to do the subtitles for the film- he’s doing them karaoke style using my custom font-
I’ve shot a little bit of behind the scenes for the musical though not much at all- as the years roll forward and my work is discovered its going to be hard for people to believe that I do all these things myself so I should probably document it more but eh too busy to do that-
I was just thinking the other day- I don’t think anyone else has made 5(soon to be 6) original animated feature films alone + several video games + programmed an animation making video game + 25+ original music albums + written books + all the other stuff I’ve made- I think I’m already in a class of my own when it comes to doing all those things-
And now- I’m making a full length musical in which I wrote all the music, lyrics, created all the vocal melodies(top lining) performed most all the singing, performed all the mocap and directed/animated/edited the whole thing + programmed custom tools to make the thing in a game engine- I don’t think anyone has ever done that on a full length (90 minute) animated film before?
So yeah I’m just wandering alone in uncharted territory and no one really knows or cares haha- it is fun though- really fun- I know I’m doing high level work here and maybe some day it will be discovered- if while I’m alive cool- if not- whatever.
It’s not an artist’s job to worry about what happens to their work- our job is to make the work. As a businessman I’m a decent business man- as an artist I’m the worst business man haha so I’m glad art is not my business.
This week I’ve been thinking about doing a song a day thing- so both yesterday and today I made a stupid little song in about an hour for each-
Saturday
Sunday
They are not some masterpieces haha as I freestyled both songs and yeah made each in about an hour- wrote no lyrics just made them up on the fly- I used Audimee to replace my voice- part of this experiment was also to see if I could produce decent quality music while recording shitty quality vocals so I could make songs on my laptop while away on trips-
So with Audimee you can upload a vocal with a shitty mic and what you get back sounds professionally recorded so its easy to mix and that’s really cool-
An hour or so ago I got a message on my itch.io as some dude posted a Derp Souls playthrough
I took note because he totally missed the “hump and pump” mechanic which is a novel mechanic for “souls-like” controls that I’ve never seen before- I had a laugh watching his playthrough- with the hump n pump thing now I want to make another joke game based entirely around that mechanic because it makes for fun combat- and have a proper tutorial for it in the game etc
I also started outlining a different survival horror game a few weeks ago-
So I’m thinking after the musical I’ll probably kick out a couple games before I go into the next musical-
A normal animated film uses a different part of your brain vs an animated musical- and making/programming games uses an entirely different part- making music is something different as well- to keep things fun its nice to jump around making these different things- I’m sure it’s good for my brain too- that’s nice so it can offset all the beer and wine I’m drinking these days 🤣
Anyhow- I gotta pack for Japan- 🍻
i hope you have a great time in Japan m dot! and stay safe out there.. 0_0
Have fun and please FLY SAFE.
